I had the pleasure of working with Bill for several years when he ran a very large high-performance computing infrastructure organization. These systems are large, complex, and expensive. Working with him on these opportunities, Bill was always open, accessible, and pragmatic. He truly understands and lives the idea of “servant leadership.” He then went on to mentor me in understanding the real details of the energy business and how complex developing an oil field really is. Also, his leadership of the broader IT community in Houston with his guidance of the Society for HPC Professionals for many years helped many others grow. I worked for Bill as his Business Controller when he headed the Seismic Imaging business at PGS. My experience under him was inspiring. I found him smart, decisive, and an excellent mentor. He led quite a sizable team in North & South America and encouraged and challenged us to think and act autonomously in our respective areas of expertise. Using his business acumen, leadership skills, and IT background he had introduced several useful business intelligence tools and dashboard to help develop the business further. Bill and I have known each other for approximately 29 years. I first met Bill while we were both working at Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS). At the time Bill was the Manager of Computer Systems Support and I was the Technical Marketing Manager for Latin America. Bill and I collaborated on several projects where he demonstrated his elite leadership and problem-solving skills. During his weekly meetings, Bill would include key team members to ensure projects were on schedule and completed with the highest technical quality. His teams were always the top performers as I believe his management style allowed them to grow and take ownership of task at hand. As I was fairly new to the company, on many occasions, Bill would mentor me on meeting the everyday challenges of working for a service company. Several times Bill demonstrated his ability to lead and act on behalf of his employer with the highest degree of integrity.

I had the privilege to meet Bill over 15 years ago. Over these many years, I have come know and respect Bill for his consistency, integrity and kindness. While Bill was a professional in every challenge he was asked to overcome, he always remained respectful of myself and others with whom he was helping. Bill is one of the rare individuals who can gain support and consensus from those around him by his ability to communicate clearly while helping others be the best they can be.

I’ve had the good fortune of working with Bill to introduce a new technology to the server/data center market. He is incredibly sharp and has a rare talent for combining business strategy with technical understanding across several industries. I came away impressed by his ability to combine a high level of technical reasoning with a complete grasp of the financial implications for different companies and technologies. A genuinely nice person, Bill cares deeply about his family and is willing to go the extra mile for his community.

I have known Bill for several years, serving with him on the Rosenberg Railroad Museum Board showed me his attention to detail along with his display of leadership and vision!

FORT BEND HERALD – There’s many who served on the the Rosenberg Railroad Museum board, the committee of volunteers here, that have made this museum successful,” he said. “But I will tell you that, Bill and Lisa Rickert, in my opinion, stepped up and really take the Railroad Museum to another level. I have known Bill for more than twenty years. I first worked with him when he was IT manager at PGS Tensor in the mid-1990s. This was a period of rapid company growth requiring constant expansion of the IT infrastructure including new types of HPC (High Performance Computing) equipment and data storage, computer room buildouts with increased power/AC requirements and new computer sites including remote vessel installations. Bill was a key contributor. More recently, our paths crossed again when I reported to Bill in his position as head of the Imaging Compute Services department at PGS. Bill was responsible for all company HPC operations including new hardware and software deployment and support. This was a multi-site, global 24/7 operation with little tolerance for downtime.I  have always considered Bill an IT expert capable of managing large IT infrastructure installations and operations. He has consistently demonstrated this over the time I have known him. He shows keen interest and understanding of new technology and stays actively abreast of the latest developments. I would describe Bill’s management style as unassuming, inclusive, ethical, practical, sensible, efficient and effective. He creates a working environment that is motivational and congenial. I believe he is an asset to any company requiring large IT infrastructure management.
